Halfway through early rough storyboards!
As of yesterday, my new shop Idle Mouse is finally open! The products are designed to encourage people to slow down and take a break from technology to make things, live well, and love others.
The idea began as a sticky note on the front of my sketchbook: “Cure for Compulsive Clicking.” I stuck it there one day in frustration that the time I spent clicking around the internet was time I could’ve used to create. Later, it occurred to me that I could spread that idea through my shop, which expanded to a product line and the idea of donating to Mission Lazarus‘ vocational schools. Idle Mouse was born.

The brilliant swissmiss was kind enough to feature Idle Mouse this morning, and I’m so happy to see the idea already making an impact!

Lettering the Command-Q Wallpaper.

Setting type for the bracelets. I scanned the resulting impression and screen printed it with my Print Gocco.

The bracelets hanging up to dry.

Last week, I designed and stenciled two pillows: one for a friend’s birthday gift and one for myself. I based my owl design on the adorable little guy in this video, which I’ve watched a few too many times.
Each used four layers of hand-cut freezer paper stencils and took several hours, so I probably won’t make more. Too many other things on my list to make!
