I’d been reluctant to develop the remaining six rolls from our September road trip, thinking they were ruined (details), but this month I finally decided to go for it. Sadly, one roll may’ve been lost in the mail, but the rest almost make up for it!
These were shot on various types of film (color, slide, and redscale), with some multiple exposures and unplanned-but-awesome camera weirdness.

After our September road trip, I found I had accidentally shot most of seven film rolls with a macro lens (six-inch focus) while framing for a wide-angle lens on my Diana. I had fortunately taken some extra shots with my DSLR, but it was painful to lose the others.
We decided to develop only the first roll as a test, and it was worth it. Among the blurry images was one unexpectedly perfect shot, which just happened to be symbolic of the place we’d call home a few months later.

The fog-enveloped Golden Gate Bridge.
Also on the roll were some older photos from a day at the beach during the summer. This shot of Oliver is one of my favorite photos of him, ever. He’s exactly as crazy and mischievous as you’d imagine from that expression.

The next roll will have to wait until our wallets recover from Christmas. I’m nervous to see what the others turn up, but this one gives me hope!

Back in September, David and I went on an epic road trip from here in Los Angeles all the way to Canada. Along the way, we visited San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and lots of places in between. We primarily shot film on our lomography cameras and haven’t developed them yet, but here are a few of my favorite digital shots. (More on my Flickr.)

Beautiful gnarly tree in the courtyard of our first San Francisco hotel.

We visited Pixar and got a tour!

That's concept art for Pixar's next movie, Brave, in the background.

We had some delicious coffee along the way, and Blue Bottle was our favorite!

Beautiful Big Rock Ranch just outside San Francisco, owned by Lucasfilm.

Our trip through Avenue of the Giants cost us a winding, foggy 3am trip up the deathtrap that is the 101, but it was worth it.

Inside one of the majestic redwoods.

Completely in love with Portland. We made a detour to visit again on the way home.

Seattle at sunset, from the top of the Space Needle. (Mount Saint Helens in the distance, I think.)

On our way out of Seattle, we discovered Nintendo's American headquarters! I had to play 3DS in front of their sign.

In Nelson, British Columbia, we stayed at a house on the lake and took a ferry across to an artisan village. Beautiful.

We visited Mount Saint Helens on the way home. All my shots of the volcano are on film, but I did get this sunset shot.
So now we’re ready for our next big adventure, which is coming up fast. I know I keep promising to share the news, but circumstances keep forcing us to wait. Soon!
